Site Evaluation

My good friend Rick Ricozzi (who is shooting with me and proves people can cross party lines to get things done) and I, went out to Airlie to get a site evaluation done for a wedding on the 4th. We wanted to get a game plan together for the wedding but mostly to evaluate some lighting conditions and distance. I am a bit hung up on lenses for this shoot due to the awesome possibility of using the depth of this garden. I want to use a fixed 200 for some unique perspectives. I put the 200 F2.0 on to ascertain the limitations of putting it into play. There could be some great risk reward shots using this lens. The big risk is being out of position for follow-up shots. Most of the time one can show up and use experience to run with the event. Anyone who plans to shoot an event knows you can never count on people doing what you expect them to do. I am thankful for a career that everyday was a dynamic environment in which one had to make contingency plans on the fly. Strangely, shooting people is a bit the same. Plan for the ideal, expect a lot of twists and go with what you have. Well, the twist already started...after about 15 minutes of being on location we started getting poured on and lightening was on top of us. So as good friends do, I gave RIck my monopod to carry back to the car.

All of these shots were with the Canon 200 F2.0. This lens is world class. The more I use it the more I cannot live without it. I do not think there is a lens as sharp as this. The only down side, it is big and heavy to be trucking around in a wedding environment and if it is not an outdoor wedding your use becomes limited.

I will post some pic’s after the event to convey some of the ideas I have.
